At the end of a hot summer
day on campus, a long pull on a
cool drink refreshes the
parched throat, invigorates the
weary brain and soothes the
psyche.
Where can you lift that frosty
glass to your lips? We checked
out some bars that were new to
us early in the season. On a
Monday night we hit Harry’s, Jo
Federigo’s and the Encore
Room at the Eugene Hilton The
Vet’s Club, Lyon’s, and The Ex
celsior Cafe we've visited on
more than one occasion Our
observations may have been
influenced by our consumption
of rum and tequila, but such
were the occupational hazards
of our undertaking

Weekday Happy Hour from
2-7 p.m. Draft beer and wine 75
cents per glass, well drinks
$1.25. Free hot and cold hors

Monday evening was slow at
Harry's. The deck was closed
and the bar nearly empty A
strawberry daiquiri and a mar
garita were our choices for
summer coolers. Each drink
cost $2.50.
Logic (or expectation) would
seem to dictate a better than
average drink on a slow night,
but this was not the case The
salt around the margarita was
excessive and the daiquiri
wasn't smooth and lacked any
flavor of rum.
Harry's interior features a late

bar, and old portraits and pho
tos are scattered around the
