EAST FALKLAND ISLAND
British gunners and comman

around the Falklands capital of
Stanley Wednesday and the
latest U N. attempts to arrange a

In another development,
British Defense Ministry spo

considerable amount” of
napalm was found at the sett

was recaptured from Argentin

McDonald could not confirm

With British shells reported
hitting three miles from Stanley,
Prime Minister Margaret
Thatcher told Britain’s Inde

don’t think there is anything
more I can do" to avert a major
battle
In a separate interview with
the British Broadcasting Corp.,
she said if Argentina agreed "to
withdraw within the next 10 to
14 days, then there would be no
need for a battle."
But she added: “I could never
see that he (Argentine Pres
Gen Leopoldo Galtieri) would
withdraw That view turned out
to be right I am not very op
timistic (now) but one never
loses hope. "
