    SPA to appeal court sanctions
The ASUO constitutional committee agreed
Thursday to hear an appeal by the Students For a
Progressive Agenda about the ASUO elections
court sanctions levied against the coalition.
The constitutional committee also ruled that
the elections court incorrectly named the plaintiff
in its Tuesday sanctions decision.
The elections court ruled Tuesday that IFC
members Jeff Nudelman, Dianne Ritterband-Ma
son, Mary Alice Holmes and EMU Board member
Mary Hotchkiss be removed from office. The court
based the sanctions on Houston's charge that the
SPA — in the person of presidential candidate
Kevin Kouns — had threatened, harrassed and
attempted to intimidate him.
The court, in deciding that all SPA coalition
candidates and elected officials are ineligible to
hold office, incorrectly named the ASUO as the
plaintiff against the SPA, said Karsten Rasmus
sen, who heads the committee
The committee ruled that Jeffrey Houston,
the former ASUO presidential candidate who filed
the three charges addressed by the court, should
be the respondent in the appeal before the con
stitutional committee.
Houston will be given the opportunity to
decide if he wants to file a respondence brief
and/or argue the case, Rasmussen said. If Hous
ton declines, the ASUO will be assigned the
responsibility, he said.
Houston could not be reached for comment.
Testifying before the committee, Alan Con
treras, an ASUO vice president and the ASUO
representative, said Houston, not the ASUO,
personally witnessed the campaign violations. A
witness files an election complaint, he said.
‘‘We (ASUO) did not see these violations,"
Contreras said.
In its decision, the court repeatedly referred
to Houston, not the ASUO, but the court incor
rectly named the ASUO as plaintiff, he added.
The constitutional committee will hear oral
arguments from both sides Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.,
Rasmussen said.
Found: one stolen bike, but no owner
If you haven’t seen your bike
recently, doublecheck your
usual parking spot The Eugene
police have recovered a stolen
bike that no one has claimed
yet
The police have picked up
three bikes stolen from the
University area. Two of the
owners were from the residence
halls, but no one has stepped
forward to claim the third bike
Sgt Rick Allison, of the
Eugene Police Department,
says the bike was located in the
area around 15th and Agate
streets and was stolen around
May 15 or 16 The bike does not
have a University registration
tag, which campus security
requires.
The bike is a Schwinn Subur
ban boy's five speed, Allison
says. He notes that the bike was
"covered with cobwebs" so it
may not have been ridden
recently.
He says the owner should
know the combination of the
padlock found with the bike. For
more information, contact De
tective Jim Guse at the Eugene
Police Department at 687-5174.
