DUTIES: Washing windows, woodwork, walls, light fixtures,
and sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, moving and removing
trash, lumber, furniture, cleaning restrooms, shower rooms and
stairwells.
REQUIREMENTS: Must be a student this spring or plan to
be in the fall. Must be able to work weekdays and weekends
beginning June 12 and be willing to be on a call-in basis
throughout the summer
Must be able to perform prolonged lifting, bending, reaching,
and stair climbing in a timely fashion.
Applications for those under 18 will be accepted only if
accompanied by a work permit
STARTING WAGE: 3 35/Hour
POSITIONS AVAILABLE: Approx. 130 seasonal part-time
positions beginning June 12th. Approx 60 positions will be
retained for regular work throughout the summer.
APPLY AS FOLLOWS:
At Douglass Hall in Walton Complex at the corner of 15th &
Agate.
Between the hours of 10 a m. - 3 p.m
May 17 - Residence Hall students
May 18 - Family Housing & U of O students
May 19 & 20 - until 4 p.m. All other students.

“An overwhelming amount of
males have applied," Balfe said
Very few women have applied,
though they are just as
qualified, he said
"Women give a different per
spective and you need that in
put," he said
So far, four women and 15
men have applied
Any background at all in ad
ministration or the ASUO
student government is an im
portant qualification, Balfe says
Balfe s selection staff will
begin interviewing applicants
on Monday and will continue
through the week All selections
should be made by the end of
May. Balfe says

Black music celebrated
About 180 people got a taste of historical black music
Wednesday in conductor/composer Jester Hairston's Negro
Spiritual Workshop
Hairston gave the historical background of each song,
explaining that many spirituals are linked to slavery and so
have a beat that is conducive to working After he sang each
song to the audience, they sang it back to him
The Black Student Union brought Hairston to the
University as part of the Black Arts Festival which continues
throughout May
Weekend pow-wow
The 14th annual Native
American pow-wow featuring
100 dancers in full costume will
continue today through Sun
day
“We re trying to give people
an insight into Indian culture —
show them something they
wouldn t normally be able to
see." says Greg Archuleta, co
director of the University Native
American Student Union, which
sponsors this weekend s pow
wow
Traditional American Indian
dancing and drumming will be
featured throughout the event.
and a wide variety of authentic
American Indian crafts and
foods will be sold
There will be no charge for
the pow-wow, which begins 8
p m Friday at McArthur Court
Dancers from tribes throughout
the Pacific Northwest Alaska,
and the Southwest will compete
for prizes of Pendleton blankets
Saturday s activities run from
noon to midnight Among that
day s scheduled events are a
gourd dance in the style of the
Oklahoma plains tribes, which
begins at 6 p m , and an Eskimo
dance at 9 p m
