here Monday to take up the
matter.
“The danger of an armed at
tack is increasing," Argentine
Ambassador Raui Quijano told
the special meeting of the OAS
permanent council He called
the British threat to recapture
the Falklands by force a return
to "gunboat diplomacy."
But Quijano said Argentina's
petition for sanctions, made on
ly hours after Secretary of State
Alexander Haig ended four days
of talks in Buenos Aires and left
for Washington on Monday, did
not mean his government is giv
ing up on Haig's mediating ef
forts
In London, meanwhile, Prime
Minister Margaret Thatcher told
the House of Commons that the
new Argentine peace plan fails
to satisfy British conditions —
namely in giving the 1,800
Falkland Islanders a say in their
future — but that Foreign
Secretary Francis Pym will pre

Rural council
contests votes
ANTELOPE (AP) - The
Antelope City Council, intent on
doing away with itself because it
fears a takeover by followers of
an Indian guru, voted Tuesday
night to contest the results of an
election that preserved the
town
The council had sought dis
incorporation of the 81-year-old
community, 150 miles east of
Portland, because it feared fol
lowers of Bhagwan Sri
Rajneesh would take over the
city at the November general
election
The failure of the proposal
was attributed to members of
the commune who have been
moving into town over the past
six months into nine houses
purchased by the commune
Mayor Margaret Hill blamed
the council's defeat on liberal
Oregon election laws that allow
residents of a community to
register and vote on election
day
The result was that more than
three times the 31 voters who
cast ballots two years ago in the
general election showed up to
cast ballots
