the University this summer.
Students now completing
their sophomore and junior
years in high school will be
chosen this spring for the new
Summer Science Experience
July 12-23 Students will explore
research activities in biology,
chemistry, geology and physics
through lab work, lectures and
field trips
The cost of the program is set
at $200 for everything but meals
and transportation to and from
campus However. Gordon
Murphy, an administrative as

ment. says he hopes that
amount will be lowered from
supplementary funding, such as
grants
In the new Global Studies En
richment Program set June
27-July 10, young people enter
ing grades nine through 12 can
learn about foreign policy and
issues such as the relationship
of rich and poor nations The
cost of the program is $93
Both the science and global
studies programs require
students to commute each
weekday to the campus
The new programs join such
popular summer activities as the
Family Vacation College, the
Summer-Enrichment Program
for Gifted and Talented
Students and the High School
Summer Music Session, offered

Seven sports camps are
planned, ranging from Rich
Brooks' Football Camp ($145 to

participant stays in the dorms)

Kennedy Jr and Cyrus Vance
Jr will become assistant district
attorneys in the office of Man
hattan District Attorney Robert
Morgenthau in August
The sons of the late Robert F
Kennedy and former U S.
Secretary of State Cyrus Vance
“came in cold" to the office,
with no recommendations from
anybody, Manhattan District At
torney Robert Morgenthau says
They passed through the of
fice's usual hiring process, win
ning praise “at each step of the
way," he said
Kennedy, 28, and Vance, 27,
will be part of a group of about
50 new assistants joining the
office this summer
Morgenthau said Monday that
all new prosecutors in his office
are hired strictly on merit, and
he thought highly of Kennedy
and Vance or he "wouldn't have
hired them "
Kennedy, a son of the assas
sinated New York senator, and
Vance, whose father served the
Carter administration and is
now in private law practice here,
will be paid the office's starting
salary of $20,000 a year
