    Communist blasts policy
U.S. administration
helps rich, not poor
The United States is being run by an
anti-labor and racist administration,”
said Communist Party representative
George Meyers Tuesday night in the
EMU Forum Room
Meyers, chairer of the party's Farm
and Labor Department, said that the
administration "is helping the rich to
rake in the profits" while exhibiting cal
lous disregard for social programs
Part of Meyers' complaint with the
Reagan administration lies in its large
cutbacks in various social programs
"The president, who claims he is helping
the country, is cutting one of the
country's most essential programs —
education," he said
“Ten percent in social benefits can do
a hell of a lot more for the people in this
country than if it was put in the military,”
Meyers said in regard to the rising mili
tary budget He expressed fear that "our
living standards in our homes and the
peace of our nation are at stake "
Meyers encouraged people to fight
back and start massive demonstrations,
adding that the strength of America lies
in the organization of labor “This is a
people's fight," he said
Meyers proposed the formation of in
dependent caucusses within the
Democratic Party as part of the Com
munist Party's strategy He also encour
aged the formation of an anti-monopoly
party for the next election
Meyers' speech was sponsored by the
ASUO, Friends of the People's world and
the Women's Referral and Resource
Center Meyers is a coal miner and grew
up in Appalachia
