Office aids
children
Any professional working with children
who needs more factual information on
a child's learning potential or behavior
may refer the child to the DeBusk Center
at the University.
"We have developed a new referral
process for doctors, attorneys, coun
selors and social workers, and will con
tinue to work with parents who wish to
bring a youngster in for assessment,"
says Sue McCullough, who has directed
the school psychology program in the
College of Education since September
The center, which provides practicum
learning experiences for master's and
doctoral degree students in school psy
chology and in counseling, is located at
1671 Agate St.
McCullough says the University
students conduct assessments of var
ious kinds, depending on the needs of
the individual child Included are those
for general achievement; intelligence;
specific skills such as reading, spelling
and math; perceptual-motor skills; adap
tive behavior; and personality and
behavioral variables
‘ Assessments are available for chil
dren of all ages,” McCullough says The
center typically works with youngsters
who are experiencing learning or
behavioral problems in school, those
who are potentially gifted, are han
dicapped or developmental^ delayed, or
those who are entering preschool
The University students are supervised
by University faculty members and cer
tified school psychologists, McCullough
says, adding that following an assess
ment, specific strategies for helping the
child are provided
A fee of $15 is charged to cover cost of
materials, but that fee may be waived
For information or referral forms, con

from the Division of Counseling and
Educational Psychology, 686-5501
McCullough, who has considerable
experience in elementary school and
Head Start teaching and in school psy
chology, received her bachelor’s degree
in elementary education at Butler
University and her master's and doctoral
degrees in school psychology at Ball
State University
