Peter von Hippel, University
chemistry department head, has
been appointed to a National
Institute of Health panel that
helps direct basic biomedical
science research in the United
States
Von Hippel. also the director
of the Institute of Molecular
Biology, is one of six leading
medical or scientific authorities
required by statute to be on the
National Advisory General
Medical Sciences Council The
council has 12 public members
His appointment, effective im
mediately, ends Oct 31, 1985
The council meets three times
a year to review research fund
ing applications and recom
mend projects to the secretary
of health and human services
Von Hippel, 50, is one of six
current University faculty who
belong to the National Academy
of Sciences He is the only one
