Bike plan seeks opinions

The University "bicycle ex
periment" was the central topic
again at the campus planning
committee meeting Wednesday
Transportation subcommittee
member Al Urquhart made a
proposal to send questionnaires
to faculty and students as a
means of soliciting comments
on last fall's bike plan which
restricted bikes to certain
routes on campus
Committee member David
Wagner said he didn't believe
many people on campus were
even aware of the new plan, but
added that the questionnaire
would be a "neat, sneaky way to
educate and inform students"
about the bike rule
A proposal passed by the
transportation subcommittee
three weeks ago would give
campus security the go-ahead
to ticket bicyclists who ride at
night without using bike lights
The proposal, forwarded to
Duo argues
life’s origin
An evolution/creation debate
today has David Wagner, an
assistant professor of biology at
the University, facing Norm Fox,
a local creationist affiliated with
the Institute for Creation Re
search
The controversy surrounding
public school teaching of both
theories of life's origin will be
the primary issue discussed,
says Dick Beswick of the Res
toration Campus Ministry
The debate will also consider
how legislators should view the
controversy and whether
"scientific creationism" is es
sentially religious — as the
American Civil Liberties Union
claims
"You won't have caricatures
represented," Beswick says,
"but two very able articulators
of their positions."
One of the weekly Mars Hill
Forums presented by the Res
toration Campus Ministry, the
debate will be held from noon to
1:30 p.m in the Koinonia Center
lounge, 1414 Kincaid St

erosion.
