University student killed
A University student was killed and his
companion injured after the car they were
traveling in went out of control in a deep
pool of water and smashed into a power
pole
James Jones 21, of 1750 Hilyard St.,
Apt 26 was killed at about 1am Wed
nesday morning as he and Bernard Bjork.
28. of 3501 Hilyard St . Apt 24. were
traveling west on Franklin Boulevard
Bjork sustained injuries and is in stable
condition at McKenzie-Willamette Hos
pital, Springfield He is also believed to
be a former University student
The cause of the accident is not yet
known

press conference — to criticism that he is incon
sistent by advocating cuts in higher education
budgets while recommending $500,000 for a
special high-technology education program it s
