Executive assistant appointed
Barbara Edwards, editor of the University's
alumni magazine Old Oregon since 1975. has
been named executive assistant vice president for
university relations and executive editor of the
magazine
"Barbara has been wearing two or three hats
for several years This formally recognizes her
work in budget and personnel matters," says Curt
Stmic, vice president for university relations
He said Edwards will provide him with addi
tional assistance in working with offices and
agencies on campus
Edwards will remain a consultant to the
quarterly publication that goes to alumni and
friends of the University
Awan Bass, who has been assistant editor of
the magazine since 1976, will become editor,
beginning with the March issue He also is editor
of Oregon Today, the University's news tabloid for
alumni, parents and friends, and an editor in the
University publications office
Edwards earned a bachelor's degree in Eng
lish and a master's deqree in journalism at the
University She was named assistant editor of Old
Oregon in 1972
Under her leadership Old Oregon has
received national awards for the past four years
from the Council for Advancement and Support of
Education, and state awards for the past six years
from the Oregon Communicators Association
Bass received his bachelor's degree in Eng
lish from the University of Santa Barbara and his
master's degree in English from the University
Prior to joining the University staff in 1976, he
wrote and designed curriculum materials for the
Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory in
Portland
