thing like the war in Vietnam,'
Kaiser says "People need to
understand why it's happening,
the antagonistic class interests
and what it's going to take to
change it,”
Kaiser sought answers tc
these questions when he firs
came to Eugene At that time he
met "a couple of working-class
women from New York," whc
Kaiser says, had a "definite ef
fect” on him because they
deviated from a "submissive
stereotype” of women
These women belonged tc

ty The RCP's mission world
wide communism as Karl Marx
and V I Lenin conceived it and
as Mao Tse-tung carried it out
"Back in 1776 there was a
chance countries could grow up
and get bigger than the coun
tries that dominated them Now
it's a hopeless dream to say
these little countries will stay
free of imperialist powers for a
protracted period of time,”
Kaiser says, explaining the
RCP's internationalist attitude
and its emphasis on "world
wide" communism
"Imperialism is based on
capitalism that outgrows its own
borders Because they can't ex
pand any more, the imperialist
powers — the NATO and War
saw war blocs — will have to
redivide the world to solve their
economic problems The
world's just not going to
cooperate with them "
This scenario will take place
in the next 10 years and will set
the stage for a revolution that
will empower working-class
people around the world, Kaiser
says

countries have been starving
long enough They'll take ad
vantage of the imperialist
powers' vulnerability
"In countries like the US,
there's going to be a dramatic
shift In people's living situations
and the threat of nuclear de
struction
"That's the stage We re go
ing to be creating public opinion
and organizing revolutionary
forces to lead tens of millions of
working-class people to an
armed seizure of power," Kaiser
says
When he talks about "we"
Kaiser means the RCP
Although Kaiser doesn't
belong to the larger organiza
tion, the RCP, he'd like to some
day First, Kaiser must be
accepted He says the RCP ac
cepts people for membership
when they prove they've mas
tered the political questions that
interest the organization
"Some of these questions, I
can deal with," the former
sociology major says "Other,
like history, I don't know enough
about ”
"The Party must be made up
of people whose lives are
devoted to the revolutionary
struggle ’’ the RCP's New
Constitution" reads
Kaiser is devoted As he walks
from one person to another at a
recent rally and tries to sell the
' Revolutionary Worker," the
RCP's weekly newspaper,
Kaiser amuses some passersby
with the writing on his T-shirt —
"I was born in the sewer of
capitalism But now I'm living
for the revolution
That s all Kaiser s doing now,
while he's unemployed and liv
ing on borrowed money Kaiser
even ties eating and sleeping
into revolution
He frequently eats with other
RCYB members, and they dis
cuss few things about which
they don't find political
ramifications
Although he s never left
America, Kaiser dreams he's in
an unidentifiable Western Eu
ropean city He meets a group of
sailors The sailors are on leave
They're getting ready to go
"The highest crime is working
people of one country shooting
down those born in another,"
Kaiser tells the sailors
And I'm trying to manage it
so I don't get killed," Kaiser says
and concludes the tale of his
dream with a chuckle
