Duck wrestlers blank opponents 47-0 in opener

back pins Wednesday night as
the Oregon wrestlers rolled to
an easy 47-0 dual meet victory
at Mac Court
Cook wasted little time put
ting Humboldt's Joe Kaminski to
the matk. pinning the junior just

ing to a quick 8-2 lead
The enthusiastic Cub Scout
Night crowd had barely settled
down after intermission when
Hochanadel delt a painful blow
to Humboldt's Paul White, pin
ning him with 52 seconds left in
the opening round, and sending
him to the locker room with what
appeared to be a shoulder in
jury

Ducks to open up dual meet
competition after posting a 22-3
mark last year This meet was
never in doubt
Senior Randy Ohta got things
going for the Ducks with a
come-from-behind 13-7 deci
sion over Humboldt's Joe Cas
terna at 118 Ohta fell behind
4-0 early on a takedown and a
nearfall before scoring six
straight points to take command
in his first match of the season
Senior Cliff Porter added to
the Oregon cause at 134 with an
11-3 win over HSU's Dave
Navarre Porter did his damage
in the second round with a
reversal, takedown and escape
In a bloody (noses) match at
142 pounds, Oregon s Randy
O'Shea dealt Humboldt's Todd
Owens an 11-2 blow O Shea
had his foe breathing hard in the
final round as the Duck picked
up six points, raising the team
score to 14-0
Duck senior Bill Nugent col
lected a forfeit win at 150 mak
ing it 20-0, then Rick O’Shea
picked up his fourth win with an
9-3 decision over Humboldt
freshman Mike Blum
The older O'Shea (a so
phomore) was never challenged
as Blum resorted to stalling tac
tics to avoid a fall

nament, a good early test for our
team,'' said Oregon coach El

year as the Ducks' coach. "It'll
tell us where we're at in our
progress, and what we need to
work on.”
If Oregon wins today, ASU
will likely be their semi-final op
