    Hackles rise over
law center studiers
A fight for study space in the University law library is turning
into a dispute over territorial rights between law students and
'outsiders."
Intended for use as a resource and information center, the law
library has had problems with undergraduates looking for a place fo
study
Anyone using the law library as a general study center has no
business being there," says Lorrie Skurdahl, a third-year law
student There's nobody to enforce that except law students—and
they just may "
Confusion over the purpose of the Labor Education and
Research Center and the Institute for Social Science Research is
also abundant Neither is intended to be used as a general study
center
‘Selectrics’ replace
library’s ‘klunkers’
Just in time for fall term papers, the University library has
installed three new IBM Selectric typewriters The one hitch is that
15 minutes costs 10 cents and 45 minutes costs a quarter
"We've had a nagging problem of old klunkers'," says George
Shipman, University librarian
Shipman says the way around replacement costs for the
manual klunkers' was to "let them pay for themselves ”
The typewriters will be in the typing rooms on the second and
third floors of the library
The idea is neither new or innovative, Shipman says, "We've
had them before, about 10 years ago we even had coin-operated
calculators "
