Math prof awarded
The National Council of
Teachers of Mathematics has
recognized Oscar Schaaf,
University education professor,
for his many years of service
and leadership in mathematics
education
In his honor, Schaaf's name
has been engraved on a per
manent plaque at the council’s
headquarters in Reston, Va
He is the sole Oregonian
among the some 20 mathema
ticians nationwide whose con
tributions to the field have been
thus recognized
Schaaf, who joined the
University College of Education
faculty in 1954, is the senior
faculty member in years of ser
vice Currently, he juggles his
time between a University ad
junct professorship and a posi
tion with the Lane Education
Service District where he works
on the nationally known Lane
County Mathematics Prob
lem-Solving Project
