placed on them If they are
suddenly faced with a lot of
responsibility that they aren't
accustomed to, they won't be
able to handle it.”

big universities, also feels the
sharpness of budget cuts The
rumors are that Magnet Arts will
be forced to either move from
the building it now shares with
the Condon Elementary School
or discontinue its program all
together
“The school board has a task
force studying the effectiveness
of the various programs,”
Curran says “We (the
alternative schools) seem to get
evaluated more often than the
regular neighborhood schools
If their goal is to drop the whole
program, it’s a sad commentary
on our educational system
‘ Physically picking up and
moving seems unlikely," she
says. ' Moving to another build
ing holds no appeal We feel
that this building is perfect for
our program It has historic
value and besides, where else
are we going to find wooden
floors for dancing?"
