Local groups unite
to observe food day
A diverse coalition of local
groups is sponsoring a celebra
tion of World Food Day on
Friday
Girl Scouts the University
Food-Op, Clergy and Laity Con
cerned, the Chicano Affairs
Center and the Lane United
Nations Association are some of
the groups involved in celebrat
ing the anniversary of the Food
and Agriculture Organization of
the United Nations
Richard Clinton, political
science professor at Oregon
State University, will speak
about world hunger and foreign
policy at 11:30 a m A staff
member of the Willamette Valley
Immigration Project, Ramon
Ramirez, will present his views
on hunger, migrant workers and
United States policy on Mexico
at 12 15 p m
Father Jesus Nieto of El
Salvador will discuss his recent
work in Honduras aiding
Salvadoran refugees and
analyze the connection
between hunger and militarism
Nieto's presentation is
scheduled for 1 p m
All the above events will be
held at First Methodist Church
at 14th Avenue and Olive Street
United States food policy
legislation will be discussed at
10 am by an aide to Con
gressman Jim Weaver, D-Ore
and at 7:30 p m Nieto will speak
about "Fleeing Repression: El
Salvador’s Refugees," at
Emerald Baptist Church, 19th
Avenue and Patterson Street
Other World Food Day events
will be held at the Eugene Public
Library, including a talk about
Lane County hunger problems
at 2 p m and a discussion of
Native American fishing rights
at 3 p m
Films for children are on the
agenda from 4 p m to 5:30 p m
Lunch will be served at First
Methodist Church from 11:15
a m to 1 30 p m for a charge of
50 cents to $1 50
Law publication issued

recently published by the
University law school The pub
lication contains an introduc
tion by former U S interior
secretary Cecil Andrus
Articles address state and
federal laws and regulations
affecting wildlife management.
