Two selected
to seek funds
The University graduate school has appointed two
people to assist university faculty members and graduate
students in finding ever-more-elusive research funds
Charlene Curry and Camilla Bayliss were chosen as
research information officers, according to graduate
school dean Richard Hersh, from "an unusually high
number of qualified applicants ” The two women, each on
a half-time appointment, replace Fran Barkan, who left
July 1 for a new position
Curry and Bayliss will help any researcher find whatever
funds are available and show them how to apply for them
According to Hersh, they plan to place more emphasis on a
broader range of funding opportunities "It's important for
us to look to different sources tor funding." Hersh says,
citing corporations and foundations as examples
Both have experience writing grant proposals and
administering grant funds
Curry was legislative assistant to Sen Ed Fadeley,
D-Eugene, during the last three legislative sessions She
has taught at the College of Education at various times
during the last 10 years, and currently is vice chair of the
LCC Board Her concentration will be on federal relations
and on funding from governmental agencies
Bayliss, a doctoral candidate in educational psychology
who has been a consultant to educational organizations,
plans to concentrate on the different foundations and
corporations which grant funds
Both are available in the graduate school at 125 Chap
man, to help faculty and graduate students
