Pity the TV addict in Eugene.
Thanks to a local cable television ser
vice, breaking the boob tube habit is
becoming next to impossible. At any time
of day or night, a fix of movies, variety
shows, sports and more is available. For
a price
No fewer than 24 separate channels
are available by subscription to Tele
prompter of Oregon, the company that
holds the sole franchise to peddle cable
programming in Eugene. Without a cable
hook-up, only the two local television
stations (KEZI and KVAL) can be
received, with sometimes dubious
reception.
Teleprompter expanded its channel
capacity early this summer by importing
satellite signals instead of relying com
pletely on direct cable impulses frorfl
nearby stations. Now, channels from
Atlanta, Ga. and Madison Square Gar
dens, N Y. are available in Eugene.
The result is a veritable smorgasbord
of programming that goes beyond the
three major networks. Or, as Tele
prompter's general manager Brian Sul
livan puts it, "It's an entirely new picture”
for TV-watching in Eugene.
The program guide itself is a sight for
sore eyes.
