    Libraries add extra
quiet study spaces

The Architecture and Allied
Arts and Science libraries will
be open the same hours as the
main library this year to provide
students with more quiet places
to study
The libraries will be open
Monday through Thursday from
8 a m to 11 p.m , Friday from 8
a m till 6 pm. Saturday from 9
am to 5 p.m and Sunday from
10 a m to 11 p m, according to
Virginia Parr, assistant librarian
for public services
Otherwise, library rules are
much the same as last year. Parr
says
Since a new student lounge
was opened last spring. Parr
says the "no food or drink"
policy will be strictly enforced
The lounge, located on the
ground floor of the library, has
several hot and cold vending
machines, as well as designated
smoking areas
In addition, the EMU lunch
van will be parked at the Kincaid
Street turnaround during lunch
hours on weekdays
This year, books will be due
on Wednesdays, and can be
checked out for the usual two
week period Parr warns that
students are responsible for
books checked out in their
names and says a 25 cent fee
will be charged for every day a
book is overdue
Fees for overdue books on
the reserve list or books called
in at another person's request
will be as high as $1 a day
Parr says the library doesn't
notify students that books are
overdue except in special cir
cumstances A good policy, she
says, is to make a point of re
turning all books if a student
plans to leave town for more
than three days

cedures, because the fees
will go on their bills at the busi
ness office, Parr says
Fines at the library's reserve
book room, where students sign
materials out for short-term use,
range from 25 cents to $1 an
hour, she says
Members of the community
not affiliated with the University
are allowed access to the library
as long as they are over 16, have
valid identification and are not
enrolled in high school. Parr
says. "Town Patron" cards are
available at the circulation desk
at the main library
Parr says students who wish
to know more about the library
can register for a three-credit
course entitled "Use of the Li
brary ” The course will be of
fered Mondays. Wednesdays
and Fridays at 10:30 and 12:30
and Tuesdays and Thursdays at
11 For business and economics
students, the class is offered
Mondays. Wednesdays and
Fridays at 9 30
