Theater plans seven plays
The University Theatre’s mamstage perform
ance schedule offers opportunities for everyone
to participate in a unique season, according to
theater director Grant McKernie
Weaving farce and fantasy, drama and
dance, the 1981-82 season features works span
ning 2.000 years of human experience
The season opens Oct 2 and 3 with a special
encore presentation of Inherit the Wind, held over
from the successful summer repertory
Directed by Grant McKernie. Inherit the Wind
is the story of the search for freedom of speech
and thought brought out by the John Scopes
' Monkey Trials "
Bent, the 1979 Broadway and London hit
drama of persecution in Nazi Germany, is the
story of the search for human dignity in a con
centration camp
Bent already is in rehearsal under the direc
tion of theater prof Robert Barton, and will open
Oct 16
Trojan Women, a classic Greek tragedy by
Euripides, opens Nov 20 Directed by Grant
McKernie, it is the story of the survivors of the
Trojan War and their struggles to rebuild faith in
both life and death
Opening Jan 22. University Theatre col
laborates with the dance department to produce
Dance '82. an evening of both classical and
innovative dance forms
Next on the boards of the University
Theatre's mainstage will be Henrik Ibsen's epic
drama Peer Gynt Directed by theater faculty
member Faber Dechaine, the rarely produced
fantastical work begins its run Feb 26 with a fresh
translation and original music
You Can't Take it With You, opening April 9,
promises hilarity and zany characters as It ex
amines a not-so-typical “average" American
family New theater faculty member Peter Davis
debuts as director
The final production of the mainstage sea
Matthew Brady (Tom Lass well) and Henry Drum
mond (Bob Fnedman) portray the antagonists in
Inherit the Wind, the story of the Scopes ' Monkey
Trials
son. The Boyfriend, combines song, dance,
catchy rhythms and big production numbers The
