Busy Emerald readers may
not have reached the last para
graph of Greg Wasson's 7/9/81
story about the University legis
lative internship program coor
dinated by CSPA At the end of
the story, Wasson acknow
ledged that 55 out of 56
legislators or legislative aides
who supervised the University
interns submitted favorable
comments on the program The
other 13 paragraphs of the story
dealt with the complaint of one
legislative aide
CSPA has extensive exper
ience in operating field
placement programs, and it is
not unusual for a placement to
fail for any of a number of rea
sons When that happens, we
try to move the student to an
other situation During the 1981
legislative session we did find
alternative placements for two
students and in both cases the
second placement worked out
very well
It's evident that the legislative
aide featured in Wasson s story
was conscientiously trying to do
a good job because otherwise
she wouldn't have taken the
trouble to write such extensive
comments and to inform the
Emerald of her complaints
CSPA regrets the misunder
standings that were apparently
involved this situaiton but we
are proud of the internship pro
gram. and we have good
documentation of its over-all
success

Two-way street
As a former legislative intern
(1979 session), recent CSPA

ing both Rep Rick Bauman and
Carol Johansen. I feel I must
comment on the recent article
Aide pans internship pro
gram"
Having experienced the
holier than thou" attitude of
many legislative aides
especially those with no prior
legislative experience, the
inability of certian aides to work
with interns comes as no sur
prise Responsibilties of aides

are immense Taking on intern
supervising compounds those
responsibilities Aide s profes
sional judgment should warn
them against the dangers of
overload
Perhaps the most ironic
aspect of the situation is that
Bauman, chairer of the the
House Education Committee in
refusing any responsibility den
ied himself interaction with
students whose education his
decisions affect
It is the responsbility of the
intern program coordinator to
see that interns are placed ac
cording to the needs of both
parties, not just for the sake of
being placed
The intern program should be
continued at all costs Perhaps
a requirement that legislators
accept responsibility for interns
or be denied placements should
be made
Only then will the experience
truly become a two-way
street ”

Reactionaries
The current situation in Iran is
all too familiar to her people
The ruling fundamentalists are
oppressing the people in Iran
only to keep grasp of their mon
opolistic rule The freedom of
speech of political expression
and the right to life are just a few
of the rights being denied at this
time The continuation of these
actions by the ruling reaction
aries is due to a decline of their
popularity among the country
men The obvious mishandling
of the economic, political and
social affairs by the current
reactionary rule must not and
will not, be ignored by the
progessive people in Iran
These ruling fundamentalists
have extremly reactionary views
that seem to have made it
necessary to act as the shah did
with an absolute dictatorship
This has led to the domination of
all facets of government to
control every aspect of the
Iranians life Not even allowing
the people choice in president
to remain in office the ruling
reactionaries have further re
pressed the people Through
torture of political prisoners,
execution of citizens and the
most recent attack on all true
revolutionaries, the current rule
is reviving the late shah s me
thod of suppression Out of the
fear of losing their power, the
dictators are now resorting to
the execution of 12 young girls
ages 13 to 17 on one occasion
and countless executions of
revolutionaries such as Said
Soltonpor, a famous writer and
poet This puts the ruling fun
damentalists in Iran at the same
level as other barbaric dictators
all over the world
You see the rulers in Iran
cannot understand the goals of
revolution as they did not ac
tively fight tor the rights of all
people during the revolution
Only a true revolutionary can
come to terms with the goals of
the people and join the fight for
their rights The Peoples
Mojahedin Organization of Iran
has fought in this struggle since
the late 1960s during which they
have been aiming for a

Shameful
It's a shame to see a Univer
sity student hide the truth in
such childish manner, hide the
reality under the name of Islam
and one of it's truest followers
who was martyred for his ac
tions against dictatorship A
name that is still a threat to the
so-called Islamic Republic Party
and the reactionary ruling class
of Iran I wondered why the
people who are responsible for
burning all Dr All Shariati s
books and tapes and the center
of his research materials would
use his name to attack the ones
he always showed support to
But I still can't figure out who
these people are hiding their
names from Why don't these
people learn some political
manners and some truthful and
honest action for the benefit of
people instead of destroying the
true revolutionary focus of such
honered Mojoheds like All
