mall late last summer, while a
65.000 square-foot retail and
office complex is planned for
the corner of 8th Avenue and
Willamette Street
Bordered by 6th and 7th
Avenues and Willamette and
Oak Streets, the two-square
block civic center site is target
ed for completion in November
of 1982
The Performing Arts Center,
located on the western edge of
the site will feature a 2,500-seat
concert hall and a 500-seat
theater when completed It will
be connected to the Hilton Hotel
and an already finished parking
garage by raised pedestrian
walkways
The Hilton will contain 248
rooms and include a large bar
and gift shop in the main lobby
and a gourmet restaurant on the
top floor The restaurant will
include a 100-seat bar
A health club, open to guests
and to the general public on a
membership basis, also will be
built
An adjoining conference
center and underground
parking garage are being built
on the south side of the Hilton
The garage is completed and
work has begun on the confer
ence center which will include
a 13.000 square-foot ballroom
and a 5.000 square-foot “jun
ior" ballroom
Norm Thompson Outfitters, a
Portland-based retail and
mail-order firm, opened a
Eugene outlet last summer at
the corner of Broadway and
Charnelton Streets The
company features exclusive
men's and women's apparel
and home, gift and outdoor
items imported from around the

of store development
The $5-million redevelopment
project at 8th Avenue and
Willamette Street, which cont
ains the Norm Thompson outlet,
is being handled by Park Willa
mette Associates Plans call for
remodeling three existing
buildings and constructing a
four-story structure on an
