    Science center exhibits holographs

fascinating tour through
holographs, geometrical illu
sions and star shows, the Willa
mette Science and Technology
Center will continue to operate
this summer, Tuesdays through
Sundays
The center, located next to
Autzen Stadium, houses
participatory exhibits, a science
store, and the Lane Education
Service District Planetarium —
listed as the ' largest and most
modern planetarium between
San Francisco and Vancouver,
B C "
Displays at WISTEC include a
human biology and nutrient ex
hibit that invites you to "analyze
your lunch" via computer Seis
mology volcanology and plate
tectronics line the walls, and an
"energy resource quiz" tests
your conservation knowledge
Laser light projects, floating
images in space and 3-D
glasses provide a surprising
peek at a new perspective

screen so its surface can be
easily viewed
WISTEC and the Planetarium
represent the first components
of a cooperative museum com
plex to be located in the Alton
Baker Park Area Funds allocat
ed by the last legislative ses
sion. along with a bill currently
before the Legislature, will de
termine when the future State
Museum of Natural History will
be situated at Alton Baker Park
At that time, the Lane County
Museum also will relocate in the
new complex
WISTEC’s summer classes
begin June 23 and offer activi
ties for ages four through adult
Preschool Science Discovery
classes invite toddlers to in
cubate and collect aquatic
animals Older children and
adults can choose from courses
in computers, outdoor biology,
wilderness survival, botanical
illustration, physics and more
Costs range from $8 to $34 for
members and non-members
The center is a non-profit,
private corporation that
depends on memberships and
community contributions for its
operation Openings always are
available for volunteer exhibit
guides, exhibit builders and
artists Those interested are
asked to call Gaile Winterman or
Carole Daly at 484-9027
WISTEC summer hours will
be Tuesday through Saturday,
10 a m to 5 p m and Sunday,
noon to 5 p m Admission is $2
for adults, $1 for senior citizens
and 75 cents for students and
children six years and older

new summer hours
Summer hours for the EMU
and its services through August
14 are as follows
The building is open from 7
a m until 7pm Monday
through Thursday and from 7
a m until 4 p m on Friday It is
closed on weekends and
holidays
The cafeteria is open from 7
a m umtl 2 p m Monday
through Friday The Deli and the
Soda Bar in the Fishbowl is
open from 11 a m until 6 p m
Monday through Thursday and
from 11 am until 3 pm Friday
The Recreation Center is
open from 10 30 am to 5:30
p m Monday through Thursday
and from 10 30 am. to 4 pm.
Friday
The EMU Print Shop is open
from 9am until 4 p m Monday
through Friday
Hair Today is open from 9
a m until 5 p m Monday
through Thursday and from 9
a m until 4 p m Friday
The Craft Center is open from
10am until 7pm Monday and
Tuesday, from 10 p.m to 6 p m
Wednesday and Thursday: and
from 10 am to 3:30 p m Friday
The Post Office is accessible
from its 13th Avenue entrance
during regular office hours
