Student parents looking for
summer childcare won't have to
go far to find facilities that suit
their needs
The University’s two centers
— the EMU Child Care Center
and the Child Care and
Development Center — will
continue to offer programs tor
toddlers (ages 15 months to 2Vj
years) and pre-schoolers (ages
2Vs to 4'/? years)
A summer program. "Getting
to Know Ourselves and Our
Environment," is planned by
CCDC for elementary-age chil
dren on a half-day or full-day
basis CCDC also cares for
infants ages 3 months to 14
months
Although both facilities ob
serve a first-priority admission
policy for student parents,
non-student parents also are
encouraged to apply
"The quality of programs in
novation and close adult-child
ratio make CCDC a child center
to be explored by all parents "
says CCDC coordinator Mary
Curtis-Gramley
Craft workshops, puppet
shows and swim trips are a few
of the events planned for
elementary age children at
CCDC this summer Younger
children will receive similar
"hands-on" experience geared
to their age group
EMU childcare rates are $110
an hour for pre-schoolers and
$1 25 an hour for toddlers
CCDC rates are $1 10 an hour
for pre-school and after-school
hours, $1 50 an hour for tod
dlers, and $1 60 an hour for
I
infants Both facilities offer
scheduled, occasional-use and
drop-in service when staffing
and space permit
A childcare subsidy will be
available summer term to
student parents using University
child care facilities To be
granted a subsidy, which is
sponsored by the ASUO,
parents must turn in a complet
ed financial aid form to the
financial aid office and com
plete a childcare cost form that
is available at either University
day-care center
From this information the
EMU staff which administers
the program, will calculate ttie
amount of subsidy to be
awarded
For more information on the
subsidy or childcare centers,
call the EMU Child Care Center
at 686-4345 or the Child Care
and Development Center at
686-4384
Other community childcare
services will be available during
the summer, says Jackie Glover,
a referral aid at the Lane County
Coordinated Child Care Coun
cil A complete list of day-care
centers currently is being com
prised by the council that will
include information on ages,
hours kinds of programs and
costs of the various community
facilities
The council also will provide
names of neighborhood day
care homes to parents interest
ed in a specific area of Lane
County Call 4-C's at 342-5456
