set softball
fundraiser
Former Oregon and Oregon
State athletes will be going at it
again in a benefit softball game
June 27 in Portland before the
AAA game between the
Portland Beavers and the
Hawaiian Islanders
The former rivals will raise
money for the scholarship funds
i. at the two universities
Among the ex-Ducks com
peting will be former University
quarterbacks Dan Fouts, now
with the San Diego Chargers,
and George Shaw, who called
•signals for the New York Giants
and the Minnesota Vikings The
two quarterbacks will be
Oregon's co-captains
Also, basketball standout Ron
Lee will be there, along with Bob
Newland, who played for the
New Orleans Saints
The game is co-sponsored by
the Oregon Club of Portland
and the OSU Varisty O Club
Each team will consist of 25
former letter winners from the
school
The game will begin at 6 p m ,
admission is $3 75, which is
good for the softball game and
the Beavers-lslanders contest

Three members of Oregon's
women’s soccer team have
been invited on a 15-day Eu
ropean tour with the United
States All Select team

All-American Michele Potestio
left this week for a tour that will
include games in Denmark,
Sweden and Germany, said
Oregon soccer coach John
Feeney.
Potestio led Oregon’s scor
ing during the fall season with
22 goals, but missed most of
the spring because of injury
In May, the Ducks split its
contests at the Cal-lnvita
tional
Oregon’s women’s soccer
team finished its fall season
with a 10-1-3 record to capture
the Northwest championship.
In May the athletic depart
ment announced the team
would be returned to a club
sport level
A.D. search
narrows to
six finalists
Those watching Oregon's
search for a new athletic direc
tor saw the field narrow to six
candidates this week as the
finalists begin the series of
campus interviews.
Although it is unknown who
all the candidates are, Oregon
officials did say that Gary Cun
ningham, the athletic director at
Western Oregon State College,
had withdrawn. Cunningham
was one of the six-finalists.
Three candidates did confirm
their status to the Eugene
Register-Guard
The three are: Rick Bay, the
associate director of the
University of Michigan Alumni
Association and a former wres
tling coach; Jerry Long, director
of promotions at UCLA who
played football and coached at
Oregon State; and Don Kelley,
the athletic director at Illinois
State
Bay and Long were inter
viewed on campus by the
12-member search committee
this week, while Kelley will finish
