Senate mulls semesters
The University Senate will
consider a proposed switch to
the semester system today at
3:30 p.m. in Room 229 of the law
school.
The semester system,
planned for fall 1983, would be
composed of two 16-week
semesters — 15 weeks of in
struction and one week of final
examinations. Under the plan,
the school year would begin in
late August and end in the
middle of May.
The vacation schedule also
would be altered, according to
the proposal.
An extra day — the
Wednesday before Thanks
giving — would be ad
ded to Thanksgiving vacation.
Christmas vacation would occur
not later than December 21 —
four days before Christmas.
Spring semester would start in
mid-January with a week-long
spring break scheduled in the
middle of that semester.
Tentative calendars following
these guidelines have been
made for 1983-84, 1984-85 and
1985-86. The proposed calen
dars still meet the necessary
requirements for an academic
year mandated by the State
Board of Higher Education.
The proposed plan makes
provisions for transfer students
and for revision of courses.
Faculty salaries will remain
unchanged under the system.
