Registrar
announces
enrollment
increase
University enrollment increased
slightly this term from the same time
last year, according to statistics
released recently compiled by the
registrar’s office.
Excluding more than 600 commun
ity education students, 15,439
undergraduate and graduate
students were attending classes as of
April 24.
The report also indicates that Ore
gon residents outnumber non
residents about four-to-one on cam
pus-12,103 to 3,367.
“Non-residents will probably
decrease as tuition continues to go
up,” predicts a registrar’s office
statistician.
According to the report, approx
imately 8,100 men are enrolled
compared to about 7,500 women.
“The men have always out
numbered the women,” the statistic
ian says. But the gap is narrowing.
What used to be several thousand is
now just a few hundred.”
However, there are more women
than men in some University
departments and schools — the
education school for instance.
Other statistics mark a small in
crease in the number of graduate
students from 2,911 last spring term to
2,957 this spring.
A breakdown of the enrollment
figures indicates that freshman
through senior classes all gained in
enrollment. The senior class posted
the largest increase with a gain of
more than 200 students.
Seniors are the largest class this
term with 3,765 students.
The number of community educa
tion students has more than doubled
to 612 this term.
