SUAB, although not always a familiar
name to many U. of 0. students, is a very
vital part of the University political sys
tem.
As your political science
representative on SUAB, I will see to it
that the various needs, and rights of the
students are listened to and fought for.
A responsible and effective leader is
needed to fill the Political Science posi
tion. I am that leader. As your represen
tative for position 13. I will do my part to
make and keep the University of
Oregon’s Student Government effective.

Paul Rudinsky
Picture this; you're a quarter mile out
to sea atop your favorite surfboard. Sud
denly your eyes bulge. Looming on the
horizon is a dark swell of water already
crowned with white foam. Wasting no
time you wheel around, flop to your belly,
dig deep with your palms and go for it.
One stroke and you're on your feet, you
take the elevator drop to the trough,
bottom turn, then rollar-coaster a track

high within the innards of the aqua mon
ster.
As a surfer used his past experience to
thrash through the water, my skills
learned from 2 years student council and
President of Junior Achievement will
enable me to make S.U.A.B. what it really
is intended to be — a voice of the
students. This will be accomplished by
listening more attentively to your sug
gestions concerning policies and bud
gets. For example, we are facing a dras
tic budget cut that could eliminate 3000
students, 25 teachers and drastically
increase our tuition. If elected, I intend to
try every way to stop these proposals.
Again, like a surfer waiting for a big
wave, a senator must also be able to rise
to the challenge. He must have the effort,
time, and patience to do a good job. I
have these qualities and more — desire
and ambition. Cast your ballot for the

The University is facing difficult finan
cial times ahead. Strong student control
through the exercise of fiscal respon
sibility in all areas of the University is
essential. The EMU is one area which
has escaped close scrutiny and sharp
edge of the fiscal knife.
Many good programs may suffer as a
result of the mismanagement of others.
One program in particular has run a
deficit for fifteen years! Program priori
ties must be re-evaluated and those
which are unable to run inthe black must
be trimmed or eliminated.
As past practice has shown, this can
not be left to the EMU Director. Itcan only
be accomplished through a strong
student EMU Board. Chris Little and I,
Bob Needham, have decided to join
forces in this election as the first step
toward that goal.
Chris is a political science major and
co-founder of Pi Kappa Pi fraternity. He
has worked in a congressional office and
will bring important organizational skills
to the position. I am a law student and
possess much needed expertise and
commitment essential to the job.
Together we can provide effective man
agement by directing EMU policies in the
interest of the student-body at large.

Group

My goal as a local board member of
OSPIRG (Oregon Student Public Interest
Research Group), is to work with
students in voicing their concerns on
issues which affect them as members of
the Eugene/Springfield community. In
our complex society I believe the in
dividual’s influence is most powerful
through group action. All students sup
port financially the different campus
groups through their tuition costs. Pre
sently, few students are taking advan
tage of OSPIRG’s resources.
My education is community service will
aid me in coordinating programs within
OSPIRG which will benefit the student
body and increase student involvement. I
would appreciate your vote on April 22nd
and April 23rd for the OSPIRG local
board.
