Newsmen named Ruhl fellows
Two Oregon newspaper executives will be
Ruhl Fellows this month at the University journ
alism school as part of the sixth annual Ruhl
Symposium on journalistic ethics and press per
formance
Mike Forrester, editor of the daily East
Oregonian in Pendleton, will meet with five jour
nalism classes today through Wednesday. Leroy
Zimmerman, publisher of the weekly Cottage
Grove Sentinel, will meet with five classes from
Monday, April 20, through Wednesday, April 22.
Forrester received his bachelor's degree in
journalism from the University in 1960. He was on
the staff of the Coos Bay World, the Eugene
Register-Guard and the Los Angeles bureau of
Associated Press before becoming editor of the
Daily Astorian in 1969. In 1973, he became editor
of the East Oregonian. He is a member of Amer
ican Society of Newspaper Editors and is a
member of the board of directors of the Oregon
Newpaper Publishers Association.
Zimmerman is a 1958 graduate of the William
Allen White School of Journalism at the University
of Kansas and was a newspaperman in Iowa
before becoming advertising manager of the
Sentinel in 1962. He subsequently was news
editor, then managing editor before becoming
publisher in 1964.
