Needy youth to get aid
A limited number of scholar
ships will be available for the
■University ^pmmer enrichment
program because of a $4,800
grant from the Oregon Com
munity Foundation in Portland.
The program, in its second
year, is designed to extend the
education of gifted and talented
students in grades six through
eight beyond what is offered in
public schools.
The grant will provide full
scholarships of $320 for 15 gift
ed but economically
disadvantaged youngsters, says
special education and program
coordinator George Sheperd.
Last year, 450 students
participated in the program,
offered in three two-week
sessions.
