Total spending by tourists in
Eugene-Springfield is about
$113 million.
The overall impact of the
University on the Eugene area
economy was $141.75 million in
1979-80, according to Universi
ty director of business affairs W.
N. McLaughlin. This figure is a 7
percent increase over last year.
The University’s estimated
operational expenditures of
$85.5 million, plus student
expenditures of $42 million and
visitor expenditures of $13 mil
lion add up to $140.5 million,
McLaughlin says. In addition,
the area received approximately
$1.25 million in state gas,
cigarette, liquor and revenue
sharing funds because the
University is here.
