In the Eugene-Sprinfield area,
music is rarely missing in the
coming events arena. This week
is no exception:
• On campus (where there are
frequent concerts), the week
starts off tonight with a “Musical
Smorgasbord” concert to be
performed at 12:30 p.m. in
Room 198 of the Music School.
Also tonight you can listen to
guest saxophone player Brian
Minor perform with university
pianist Victor Steinhardt at 8
p.m. in Beall Concert Hall.
Tomorrow night Harpsichord
student Nancy Selvester will
perform her master’s degree
recital at 8 p.m. in Room 198.
Randy Larson and Doug
Walter will direct the University
Percussion Ensemble tomorrow
night at 8 p.m. in Beall Concert
Hall.
The composition department
presents a concert of new music
by student composers at 8 p.m.

• Lending an ear a bit off cam
pus, William Ackerman and
George Winston will perform a
benefit concert for Jazzwork
shop Inc. (a non-profit corpora
tion) at 8 p.m. Saturday in the
Willamette Room in the Valley
River Inn.
Ackerman is considered by
many to be one of the finest
acoustic guitarists in the
country. William has recorded
three albums to date, with a
fourth due in April. Tickets are
$5 in advance and $6 on the day
of the show.
March 14 Philo recording
artist Lisa Neustadt and the
Angel Band from the greater
Boston area will perform at the
Wesley Center (1236 Kincaid
St.)
• Elvin Bishop comes to
Oregon March 13 and 14 —
though you’ll have to drive 109
miles (or so) to see him with the
Liquid Blues Band at the Eu
phoria in Portland. Tickets are
$6.75. Showtimes are 7:30 and
11 p.m. Also at Grand Illusions.
• The Eugene Symphony
Orchestra is offering classical
concert tickets to students for
half price. Tickets normally
priced at $6, $7 and $9 will be
available for $3, $3.50 and $4.50
ten minutes before curtain time.

department presents Einen Jux
Will Er Sich Machen, a farce
with music by the Austrian
playwright Johann Nestroy.
Performances are March 9, 10,

happening on Tuesday at 7:30
p.m. Gary Braasch presents his
multi-image slide presentation,
The Creation of Mt. St. Helens in
the EMU Ballroom. A benefit for
the Oregon Wilderness Coali
tion, admission is $2 for
students and $3 for the general

Steve for getting through the weird screams in the night
