A Nobel Prize-winning physicist will discuss
the application of surface physics to immunology
tonight.
Ivan Giaever, since 1973 a research immun
ologist at the General Electric Research and
Development Center, will speak at 4:30 p.m. in
Room 123 Science I. His talk is part of a series of
colloquia sponsored by the physics department.
Giaever's lecture is expected to be of par
ticular interest to physicians, health care profes
sionals and biomedical researchers, according to
physics Prof. Rudolph Hwa, series coordinator.

Nobel Prize-winninq physicist speaks
A member of the National Academy of Sci
ences, Giaver was a Guggenheim fellow at Cam
bridge University in 1969-70 and a visiting
professor at the Salk Institute in 1976. He received
the Nobel Prize in physics in 1973.
Besides his studies of surface physics, Gia
ver’s research interests include tunneling
superconductivity, heat transfer, stress analysis
and field ion microscopy.

University of Norway and from Rensselaer Poly
technic Institute
