Boos, cheers and a burning yellow ribbon greeted former
hostage Victor Tomseth during his speech Monday in the
EMU Ballroom, but Tomseth, a 1963 graduate of the
University, kept his cool. “This exercise of the right of free
speech and assembly serves to remind me as much as
anything could that I am in the United States of America.’’

marked the beginning and end of his speech.
