    Ducks face potent OSU
Junior Dawn Haberland,
the Oregon record holder in
the all-around, will return to
the gymnastics team when
Oregon hosts Oregon State
University at 8 p.m. in
McArthur Court.
Haberland, who had
shoulder surgery in
December, will compete in
the vault and on the balance
beam.
Oregon State’s all-around
and team scores are among
the highest in the country.
Paced by Mary Ayotte’s
school record 37.40 in the
all-around, OSU beat
20th-ranked University of
Minnesota, 143.45-128.50,
last week. The Ducks also
defeated Minnesota,
133.25-129.90.
OSU coach Ron Ludwig
expects to start two Eugene
area freshman in the all
around. Pam Bond, from
Churchill High School, has a
best of 33.40 and is one of
the Beavers’ top performers
on the uneven bars. Laurie
Carter of Springfield hit 34.9
last week.
The second ranked
Beavers, who finished fourth
in the AIAW nationals last
year, are 5-1. Its only loss
was to Arizona State Univer
sity, 140.95-139.05.
Oregon coach Henriette
Heiny was pleased with her
team's performance against
Minnesota, but expects more
from the undefeated Ducks
when they take on the
Beavers.
