ASU women trip Ducks
Sun Devils roast
Ducks, 104-64
Oregon’s men’s basketball team held back the
Arizona State steamroller for one half, then succumbed
quietly in a 104-64 loss
The Sun Devil game was the Ducks second straight
loss and gives them an 0-2 record in the Pacific-10
Conference.
Oregon employed a slowdown offense to control the
tempo of the game in the first half. The ploy worked as
the Ducks led the 13th-ranked Sun Devils by as much as
six points for almost four minutes in the first half.
But early foul trouble by center Mike Clark and
forward John Grieg stifled Oregon’s attempts to
dominate the boards.
Arizona State shot a torrid 65 percent from the floor
and 80 percent at the free throw line. Oregon managed
42 and 57 percent, respectively.
Clark led Oregon scorers with 19 points, while John
Cheatham added 11

appeared to be headed for its 10th win in 14 outings.
“They just outhustled us all over the floor.” Heiny
said. “They played aggressive defense and that took
us out of the game and out of our offense They just
seemed to have more desire to win the game than we
did.”
