sports_ Oregon, 49ers face off After a strong third-place fin ish in the Queens Classic tour nament, Oregon’s women's basketball team is on the road again. Tonight, the Ducks are on the road, facing defending AIAW Region 8 champion Cal State Long Beach On Saturday, Oregon travels . across Los Angeles to Pauley Pavilion to face UCLA. Oregon, 2-1 this season, ex pects a tough game against the Long Beach 49ers, says Duck coach Elwin Heiny. Long Beach returns its entire starting line from last season’s AIAW quarterfinals team, in cluding “three superstars,” Heiny says. The 49ers field a squad that includes three members of national teams — LaTaunya Pollard of the U S. Olympic Team, Kim Maddox and Beth Schroeder. Oregon also fields three na tional team players — 6-0 junior forward Bev Smith, 6-3 fresh man center Alison Lang and 5-11 freshman guard Diane Hiemstra Smith and Lang play for the Canadian National Team, while Hiemstra competes Goldie named All-American Oregon senior defensive tackle Vince Goldsmith has been named to the Associated Press All-American second team. Long Beach totaled a 26-8 record last sea son, while the Ducks were 24-5 Both teams are ranked this sea son — Oregon is 13th, Long Beach 10th. At the Queens Classic, the Ducks made a bid to rise in the rankings, defeating seventh ranked Stephen F.
