Take A Llama To Lunch
Anybody wanna buy a llama? How about a Rogue River camp trip?
Dinner for two at Poppi’s? A complete fly-fishing outfit? A tomahawk? Or
maybe even an Environmental Impact Statement Review? All the above,
and much more, may be picked up at the First Annual Wild Oregon Fair and
Auction Saturday at the Lane County Fairgrounds.
The purpose of this environmental event is to provide an entertaining
and educational forum for public lands and public waters issues, as well as
have a good time and discover the unknown and uncrowded parts of
Oregon.
More than 60 conservation groups, government agencies, outdoor
clubs and local retailers will be involved in the day-long event.
Running concurrently with the fair in two adjacent rooms are slide
shows and workshops on forest wilderness, desert wilderness, wild rivers
and outdoor photography. Gary Braasch, a reknowned Oregon photo
grapher whose work has frequently appeared in many magazines, will
present two multi-media slide shows in conjunction with his outdoor
photography workshop. One of the shows, "What is Revealed," is about
the desert and was written by Finn Rock author Barry Lopez.
A benefit auction highlights the afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m., with
a special multi-screen slide show on last year’s solar eclipse produced by
Gary Grimm and Katy Flanagan of the University's Outdoor Program. The
auction begins immediately after the eclipse program, with Russell Sadler
sharing the auctioneer duties with Ken and Constance Redman of Redman
Auction Co. in Sweet Home Another Grimm-Flanagan slide show of a ski
trip in Mt. McKinley National Park will end the auction.
The exhibits wind up at 7 p.m with everyone who attended during the
day invited to dance the night away with the Smokey Valley String Band at
8:30 p.m.
Doors open at 11 a m. Cost is $2 for adults, $1 for students and seniors,
and free for those under 12. This event is sponsored by the Oregon
Wilderness Coalition, the Outdoor Program and the Willamette Valley
Observer.
