Phone mother for free on Saturday
On Saturday, the day before
Mother’s Day, you can call your
mother for free from the down
town mall.
Well, there are some
qualifications. The call is limited
to three minutes and must be
placed within the continental
United States, but outside of
Oregon, according to mall
manager Ray Mclver.
The event runs from 9 a m. to
3 p.m. and is sponsored by the
Eugene Downtown Association
and Pacific Northwest Bell.
Three phone stations will be set
up under a blue-and-white
striped awning at the southeast
corner of the central plaza bal
cony.
"The Downtown Association
was not financially able to do
this event last year, and boy did
we hear about it,” Mclver says.
Mclver ruled out overseas
calls because of their prohibi
tive cost — and if mom lives in
Oregon, "you really should go
visit her.”

'■ Remember Mom mf
on Ma\; 11th
Make this Mother’s Day one that Mom will
remember - send her a Give-A-Book Cer
tificate, redeemable in hundreds of book
stores across the nation.
It s simple. Choose one of the handsome gift cards, tell
the salesperson the denomination of the gift certificate
you want, and write your own special greeting in the
card. Seal. Stamp. And Mail. No package to wrap. No
trip to the post office. No standing in line.
It’s economical. For the cost of the gift card plus the
cost of the stamp, your gift is on its way! There are no
service charges to you, and Mom gets the full value of
the amount you paid for the certificate.
It’s fast. Since your gift is traveling first-class, it will
reach its destination quicker than any package sent by
parcel post.
