Journalism school hosts pros
A former ombudsman for the Washington Post,
a Newspaper Advertising Bureau representative
and a market research executive will be among
featured speakers at the 61st annual Oregon
Press Conference to be held Friday, Feb. 15, at
the University journalism school.
All events except the luncheon and dinner will
be at Allen Hall, Room 221.
Ben Bagdikian, professor of journalism at the
University of California Berkeley and former om
budsman and assistant managing editor at the
Washington Post, will speak on “The 1980s. Basic
change for the Press?”
John Temple-Raston, vice president am
regional manager for the Newspaper Advertisini
Bureau, San Francisco, will discuss a nations
study on women and newspapers at 3:15 p.m.
Roy Bardsley, president of Bardsley ant
Laslacher, a market research firm in Portland, wil
speak on “What We’ve Learned About Oregon
ians and Their Newspapers" at 10:45.

LECTURES
Eugene artist Katherine Gorham will present
a slide show and talk analyzing how women
have been historically treated in art today at
12:30 p.m. in the EMU (room to be posted).
Gotham will continue with a discussion of a
new feminist sensibility in art, obstacles
encountered by women artists and the relation
between politics and art.
"Inventing Your Urban Future: Innovations
From Around the World" is the subject of a
lecture by Prof. Spenser Havlick today an 3:30
p.m. in 210 Lawrence Hall. Havlick instructs at
the College of Environmental Design at the
University of Colorado.
FSchard Henderson of the MRC Laboratory
of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, England
will lecture in 331 Science II on "Structure of
Bacterio-Rhodopsin and its Role in Energy
Transduction "
MEETINGS
The Undergraduate Economics Forum will
hold an organizational meeting and social
event today at 8 p.m. in 410 PLC.
