Area day care for pre-school chil
dren has been hard-hit In the Eugene
area, with recent closures of several
large commercial facilities.
But there are some low-cost re
sources available to the student-par
ent; three of the most accessible are
connected with the University
The EMU Childcare Center, located
on the ground floor of the building, will
be reserving space on an hourly basis
for children under 5 during registration
today and until space is filled Director
Rachelle Katz says the center s pro
gram is developmentally based, geared
to each age level's abilities.
Activities during the summer include
walks around campus and visits to
nearby wading pools, as well as indoor
games and learning
Fees for children from 15 months to
three years are $1 12 per hour, the fee
for children ages 3 and 4 is $ 98 The
center is open from 8 a m to 4 30 p m

A possibility for students who attend
only morning classes is the Amazon
Day Care Center, in the Amazon mar
ried student housing, It accepts chil
dren aged 2 and one-half to 6 week
days. for a recreational summer pro
gram that includes field trips.
“I think we have probably the lowest
rates in town.” says cooperative parent

accomodates 20 children, and pre

waiting list when the openings are

The Child Care and Development
Center at 1511 Moss St does not have
space available now, but does have a
waiting list parents can sign It also
offers a latch-key program for older
