Police need translators
The Eugene Police Department is seeking volunteers who are
sufficiently skilled in a second language to assist the department in
communicating with non-English speaking people
Volunteers should live in the Eugene-Springfield area, and be
willing to submit to a limited background investigation to insure
their reliability. Persons wishing to volunteer or desiring more in
formation should contact Lieutenant Bill DeForrest or Agent Bob
Goldsmith at the Eugene Police Department by phoning 687-6156.
Director earns new title
Marliss Strange, associate director of the University of Oregon
Office of Academic Advising and Student Services, has been voted
president-elect of the Western Regional Association of Advisors for
the Health Professions
Strange is the first woman to be named head of the associa
tion in its 10-year history. She will succeed current president
Anthony Smolders, professor of chemistry at Loyola Marymount
College, this fall. In the past. Strange has served as program
director and as a. member of the executive committee of the as
sociation

The Amazon Co-operative Day Care Center is now registering
children aged 2Vt-6 years old for its summer session program.
The center, located in the Amazon student housing complex,
will offer a variety of activities, including gardening, field trips,
cooking and carpentry Snacks and lunch will be included
Hours are tentatively set for 8 am to 1 pm An
afternoon program will be added if demand arises Tuition costs
will vary depending on the amount of hours a parent can work at
the center.
