Local poet to read work
John Witte, a University graduate, will give a reading of some of
his works today in 146 Straub Hall
Witte will read from his first book, ' Loving the Days," published
last year as part of the Wesleyan poetry series He also will read from
more recent works The reading will begin at 8pm
Witte, influenced by poets James Wright, Robert Lowell and
Gerald Stern, writes optimistically about life
Witte's reading is free and open to the public It is sponsored by
the University's Master of Fine Arts program

Photographic prints of the
outdoors will be collected from
Sunday through March 16 for a
photo exhibit sponsored by the
Outdoor Program.
The show is titled "Open Air
Images” and will take place dur
ing spring registration. Everyone
is welcome to submit either black
and white or color prints dealing
with non-competitive, outdoor
activities.
A picture mounting session will
be offered Feb 28. Those who

Businesswoman to talk
Eugene businesswoman Edith Maddron, a member of the Oregon
Educational Coordinating Commission, will be the featured speaker at
the University’s winter term commencement ceremonies Friday.
About 730 winter degree candidates will be eligible for the
ceremonies, to be held at 7:30 p.m. in McArthur Court.
Maddron is one of the seven original members of the ECC, a state
commission with the responsibility of planning, coordinating and
evaluating Oregon's educational offerings from kindergarten through
college.
Among the University's 730 winter term degree candidates are
502 candidates for bachelor’s degrees, 188 candidates for master's
degrees, 38 doctoral degree candidates and 2 candidates for law
degrees.
Music teachers sought
Applications are being accepted for instructors for the Eugene
Parks and Recreation Department's Summer Music Education
Program.
Possible class offerings include beginning and intermediate
strings, recorder, woodwind, band percussion, stage band and youth
orchestra.
Applications are available from 7:30 a m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday at 858 Pearl St., fourth floor, and must be returned by
