Sufi teacher gives talk
Sheikh Shabda Kahn, a Sufi teacher from the San Francisco area,
will present a seminar at Peterson Bam Community Center, 3825 Royal
Ave., on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The seminar will be open to the public and will focus on the
teachings of the Sufi masters in the areas of meditation using the
breath, rhythm and sound. The seminar will be sponsored by the Smil
ing Forehead Sufi Center, a spiritual group associated with the Sufi
Islamia Ruhaniat Society.
The cost is $12 per day, or $21 for both days. A vegetarian lunch is
included.
Kahn is a disciple of the American Sufi teacher, Samuel Lewis (Sufi
Ahmed Murad Chisti) and studied with him up to the time of Lewis’ death
in 1971. Presently Kahn studies with Pandit Pranath, an exponent of
Classical Indian music.
Kahn has traveled extensively offering seminars in music medita
tion, dance and breath. He has performed for several years in the Sufi
Choir and has led several choirs in the performance of “sacred music."
Placement office moves
The University job placement office is moving south for the winter
— from Oregon Hall to 1511 Agate St.
The job service — which provides current listings of available jobs,
job counseling and help with resumes — will be closed Monday for the
move, but will re-open in its new location Tuesday.

1’/2-hour television program Sun
day.

Eugene-Springfield area on
KOZY-TV, cable channel 11.

Youths hold workshop
The Looking Glass Youth Advisory Committee is holding a work
shop Saturday on Youth Rights and Legislation.
The committee, which is made up of area youth, acts in an advisory
capacity to the Looking Glass Family Crisis Intervention Center.
The workshop is free, and participants will be provided with a lunch.
Jeff Budd of Looking Glass says of the event, "The speakers are
very knowledgable in their fields. We feel fortunate that these people
are donating their time and energy.”
Couple workshop offered
"Improving Couple Communication", a four-session workshop will
begin today at 7:30 p.m. at the Edgewood Church on Fox Hollow Road
at E. 46th Ave. in Eugene. The workshop is offered by the Marriage
Education Center, a non-profit organization whose aim is to educate for
better relationships.
Cost of the four sessions is $65 per couple and pre-registration is
required. More information may be obtained by phoning the center at
