Union schedules
Holmes movies
to raise funds

The University Graduate
Teaching Fellows Federation
(GTFF) will sponsor a "Sherlock
Holmes Film Festival and Benefit”
Friday and Saturday.
The weekend’s film showings
and future fund-raising events will
help the union pay its share of the
cost of fact finding, a collective
bargaining procedure conducted
by a state Employment Relations
Board official, GTFF spokesman
Jeff Edmundson says.
Following eight months of
negotiations between the GTFF
and the University, union mem
bers voted last June 6 to reject the
University’s contract offer and to
request fact finding for the sum
mer months.
Edmundson said the 30-day
fact finding process, required by
Oregon law before a labor union
may strike, could begin as early as
mid-August and will cost the
GTFF from $250 to $1,000.
The 31/2 hour festival will feature
three films, all starring Basil Rath
bone as Sherlock Holmes and
Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. “Sher
lock Holmes and the Secret
Weapon’’ (1943), “The Woman In
Green” (1945) and “The Adven
tures of Sherlock Holmes” (1939)
can be seen both days beginning
at 7 p.m. in 177 Lawrence.
Admission is $1.50.
