Skits mock nuclear power

sored a rally and parade Saturday in Eugene to pro
test the Eugene Water and Electric Board’s 30 per
cent ownership of the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant.
About 250 people joined the brightly costumed
marchers who began their journey at noon from the
Lane County Courthouse. The protestors sang anti
nuclear songs, played music and performed skits
along the way.
A wooden replica of the Trojan Horse led the
group onward in the wind and rain making stops at
the Eugene mall and the Saturday Market. Cynthia
Wooten, an aide to 4th District Congressman Jim
Weaver, and Emily Ashworth, a Democratic
governor s candidate also participated in the events.
The group is pushing for divestment of the St.
Helena plant shared because, it says, Trojan not only
doesn's meet any electricity needs of Eugene con
sumers, but could cost them a great deal in increased
rates if the plant is shut down.
TDA predicts that such a shutdown would in
crease EWEB rates by an immediate minimum of 70
percent through 1982. with another increase of 10
percent that year.
