Inflation
seminar set
A new Honors College colloqium next
term will give students a chance to see pro
fessors “in a different light than the class
room, and articulating their views in a dif
ferent environment,” said Steven
Raymund, a coordinator of a new Honor’s
College Colloqium, Symposium on Inflation
and Unemployment, being offered next
term.
The three-credit symposium will meet
every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:30 and
consists of one speaker giving their view
with commentators and students, often with
differing perspectives, asking questions
and debatina issues raised during the talk.
Commentators will range from profes
sors and union representatives, to corpo
rate business men, Raymund said.
The “very informal” symposium will give
more time to the problem of unemployment
throughout the term because it is "easier to
handle” than inflation, Raymund said.
Daniel Pope, an economic historian, will
outline the history of various theories relat
ing to unemployment and inflation during
the first class. Robert Campbell, a Univer
sity economics professor, will speak on
governmental management of the
economy through controlling the market
during the second class meeting.
Other speakers during the term include
Marty Landsberg, an assistant professor of
economics at Willamette University, who
will speak on a Marxist perspective of the
1970’s; Margaret Simeral, University
economics professor, speaking on unemp
loyment: and Joan Acker, University pro
fessor of sociology, talking on women and
unemployment in the 1970’s.
Jerry Blake, an urban studies professor
at Portland State University, will speak on
unemployemtnt among black youth in Port
land. Blake has been examining and re
searching this for some time. Ed Whitelow,
University economics professor will be the
commentator during that session.
The class is open to all students.
‘Buzz Off Show’

‘‘The Buzz Off Show," ala the Gong
