Yoga nun gives spirit talk
An informal talk on “Spiritual Liberation and Service to Humanity,”
will be given Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in the EMU, room to be posted. The
guest speaker will be Didi Vikashini, one of only two Ananda Marga
yoga nuns currently in the United States.
Vikashini is originally from England and received her training as a
yoga renunciate in an Ananda Marga training center in Sweden. She
has been teaching yoga philosophy and practicing for two years on the
East Coast.
Vikashini is also a prominent figure in the Progressive Women’s
Spiritual Association.
The talk is free of charge.
Oberlin organist to play
David Boe, dean of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, will give the
final performance of the Earty-Keyboard Festival when he performs
Sunday at 4 p.m. at Central Lutheran Church, 18th Avenue and Potter
Street.
Boe will perform on the church's organ, which is the largest ever
built by top United States builder John Brombough. The program will
include works by Buxtehude, J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach and Mendelssohn.
Boe also will serve as a judge in the Close scholarship awards
competition at the University School of Music while he is in Eugene.
Tickets for Sunday’s concert may be purchased at the door. The
cost is $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for students.

Music competition slated
Four adjucators from around the nation will judge the annual Ruth
Loraine Close Scholarship competition Friday and Saturday at Beall
Concert Hall.
The judges are David Boe, dean of the Oberlin Conservatory of
Music; Ezra Laderman, composer-in-residence at the State University
of New York in Binghamton and an internationally known composer;
Jane Weidensaul, assistant professor of music history at William Pat
terson College in New Jersey and a professional harpist and Gebor
Rejto, professor of cello at the University of Southern California.
The auditions for the awards will begin each day at 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
The auditions are open to the public.
Winners of the scholarship awards may receive as much as $2,000
to continue their education at the University.

Conference to be held in Olympia, Wash, in May.
The local meeting will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Harris Hall, in
the Lane County Courthouse.
The conference will be sponsored by the Cascadian Regional
Library (CAREL) to share educational experiences and the develop
ment of experiences, insights and ideas among interested persons.
Innovations in education will be examined from many different
perspectives, providing for the needs of traditional and alternative
school teachers, parents, students and others.
